Worship
Worship is more than simply attending a church service. Worship is not entertainment, nor a performance of speakers and singers. Worship is the human response to God's grace and infinite love, and is central to the life of Christ's church. It nurtures our spiritual growth as individuals and as a community in Christ.
In worship, we meet and publicly declare our faith through the Word and the Sacraments of Communion and Baptism. In the framework of the Reformed tradition, worship elements consist of scripture readings and sermons, hymns and anthems, prayers and offerings. We are a community of believers in which you can grow in God's love and revitalize your faith. Please join us at one of our Sunday worship services and at our other Christian educational, spiritual and congregational activities.
9:00 a.m. Early Service at McArthur Chapel - Seating 100, the chapel is in the style of a small country church with large, stained glass windows. This service offers a simpler, more informal worship experience. Concerns and thanksgivings are raised by worshipers to be included in the prayers of the people.
11:00 a.m. Traditional Service at the Main Sanctuary - Seating 1,000, the layout of the sanctuary is in the traditional cathedral design, with a large suspended cross in the nave, illuminated against the coral walls. This service offers more formal, traditional worship, including children's messages, anthems by the Sanctuary choir, and congregational singing led by our 65 rank, 4,000 pipe, Möller Pipe Organ. Baptisms are usually performed at this service.
Other services are offered during the church year, including Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday during Lent; Christmas Eve; and other designated occasions. Please contact our Church Receptionist for dates, times and locations.
The Sacrament of Communion is offered for all who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. At the Early Service in McArthur Chapel, communion is celebrated each Sunday by intinction (dipping torn bread into the cup). At the 11:00 service in the Sanctuary, communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month. Communion elements are passed by the Elders to the congregation.
Communion is also celebrated on Maundy Thursday in Holy Week, and at other designated services. Home communion is provided on the first Sunday of the month to our homebound and nursing facility members upon request.
Both the McArthur Chapel and Sanctuary are available for weddings for members as well as non-church members. Please contact our Church Receptionist for further information and referral to our Wedding Coordinator.
